‘Our goal is to create a welcoming space where people can play, improve, and connect, whether they’ve picked up a paddle once or are seasoned players’
New pickleball courts on Sutton Fields will open today. Owners, We Do Pickleball, said this marks a major milestone in expanding year-round play for pickleball enthusiasts of all ages and abilities.
The space is designed to be a ‘vibrant hub for sport, social connection and community fun’. The sport is a blend of tennis, badminton and table tennis with growing popularity.
Director Matt Whitaker said: “We are incredibly excited to open We Do Pickleball and share this amazing sport with our community. Our goal is to create a welcoming space where people can play, improve, and connect, whether they’ve picked up a paddle once or are seasoned players.”
The site has seven premium indoor courts with high-quality surfaces. The new site also offers social sessions where players can meet, connect and enjoy the game together, as well as professional coaching sessions and structured ‘intro to Pickleball’ group classes for all skill levels.
Hull City Council granted planning approval for the site at 30 Copenhagen Road last month. There were 57 letters of support for the application, with many supporting the notion of bringing unused industrial units back to life.
Following news that their application had been approved, a spokesperson from We Do Pickleball, an off shoot of We Do Tennis, told Hull Live: “Pickleball is massive in America, and we’ve seen the same incredible momentum building here in the UK. We’re thrilled to be taking the next step by securing planning permission to open one of the country’s first dedicated pickleball centres.”
To celebrate the launch, We Do Pickleball will host special events and social sessions during its opening week. Bookings are now live for court time, social and coaching sessions, and introductory classes. To book, visit www.wedopickleball.co.uk
