Hollie was 20 years old when she died, but her memory is being kept alive through fundraising for charity
A 24-hour netball tournament is being held in memory of an East Yorkshire woman who tragically lost her life aged just 20 years old. Hollie Tennent, from Sproatley, loved netball and was described by her mum Joanne Tennent as being “very popular” and having varied interests.
Hollie sadly died in August 2022 just over a week after she was discharged from the mental health crisis team. An inquest into her death found there were a number of failings in her care.
Since Hollie died, her family and friends have been fundraising in her memory every year. The 12-hour netball marathon has become an annual tradition, with previous tournaments held in January 2023, 2024, and 2025.
It will be held on Saturday, January 24, at The Waudby Centre from 10am until 10pm. There is a requested minimum donation of £5 to play one match, which is open to netballers, walking netballers, juniors, and anyone new to netball.
The target of the fundraiser is £2,000, to be split equally between Hull and East Yorkshire Mind and Dove House Hospice. Last year’s netball tournament raised more than £8,000.
Olivia Park, Hull KR Netball’s Head Coach, Leeds Rhinos Pathway Coach, and Hollie’s close friend, is organising the event. She has also made a Just Giving page which is accepting donations.
In the description, she wrote: “Mark, Jo, & Alicia would like to thank everyone for their support and generosity in raising funds to share awareness and keeping Hollie’s memory alive.
“If you would like to donate, participate or volunteer please contact me at: netball@hullkr.co.uk. Your support will be very much appreciated!”
In the summer of 2024, a music festival called Holliefest was held in Sproatley which also raised money for the chosen charities.
