A man was reportedly struck with what was thought to be a hammer, police said

Two men were arrested after an alleged altercation involving what was thought to be a hammer closed a Hull road and led to police and ambulance responses. Humberside Police were called at around 10.15pm on Saturday due to a reported physical altercation, with one man being treated in hospital for his injuries.
The incident occurred at Spring Bank and onlookers reported the road was closed for some time while emergency services dealt with the alleged altercation. A brick was later recovered from the scene. Police are now appealing for witnesses, or anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward.
One 34-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He was later arrested on suspicion of affray and will be taken into custody. Another man, aged 30, was also injured. He was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and has since been bailed.
A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “Two men have been arrested after we were called to reports of an altercation between two men in the street on Spring Bank in Hull at around 10.15pm on Saturday, 4 July 2026. It is reported a physical altercation occurred between the two men, before one of the men was allegedly hit with what was thought to be a hammer, and the other was also assaulted.
“A 34-year-old man was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries which are not thought to be life threatening at this time. He has since been arrested on suspicion of affray and will be transported to custody. A 30-year-old man also sustained injuries and was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent. He has since been bailed pending further investigation.
“As part of our initial enquiries, a brick has been recovered from the scene at this time, and enquiries remain ongoing to determine the full circumstances around the incident and ascertain whether any other weapons may have been used. We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, has any information including CCTV or dashcam footage to please contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference 26*92999. A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said: “Ambulance resources responded to an incident on Spring Bank in Hull on Saturday night.”
