Several Super League clubs were left counting the cost of Magic Weekend at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, with a host of injury concerns emerging across the two days. Here’s a round-up of the latest.
The final match of the biggest-ever event saw plenty of casualties for both Wigan Warriors and St Helens .
Alex Walmsley failed a head injury assessment, while George Delaney was also forced from the action with a result yet to be confirmed. Daryl Clark was another who had to leave the fierce battle with an ankle issue.
Wigan, meanwhile, also lost several players. There were concerning scenes which required a short stoppage of play after Nathan Lowe lost consciousness after being assisted from the field with a serious hamstring injury, on just his second senior appearance.
Junior Nsemba also suffered a hamstring injury and had to be withdrawn, while Bevan French missed the match due to his own fresh hamstring issue.
Leigh Leopards face an anxious wait over several of their stars ahead of this week’s match with Castleford Tigers.
Tesi Niu was forced from the action after a hip-drop tackle from Sam Powell, with the Warrington Wolves veteran sin-binned for the incident in the second half.
Isaac Liu suffered cramp, while Robbie Mulhern did not return for the second half. Joe Ofahengaue was withdrawn on precaution because of a calf issue.
David Armstrong also suffered an eye problem during the first-half, and was unable to see out of his left eye still as he left the Everton stadium.
Huddersfield’s Asher O’Donnell also appeared to be on the end of a hip-drop tackle, one of three players to be injured for the Giants.
Chris Patolo failed a head injury assessment, while Fenton Rodgers also picked up a knock. Jacob Gagai did not feature at Magic Weekend due to a calf issue.
Castleford also lost a handful of players during their heavy derby defeat to rivals Wakefield. George Hirst, Brock Greacen and Tyler Dupree all failed head injury assessments, while Liam Hood reported pain in his neck on his long-awaited comeback.
Darnell McIntosh also suffered a groin issue, while Krystian Mapapalangi was seen limping from the ground – although he is set to be fit for selection this week.
Leeds Rhinos have been made to sweat over Ryan Hall, with the veteran forced off against Bradford.
“We’re hoping he’s ruptured his plantar fascia,” explained head coach Brad Arthur. “If that’s the case, then it’ll probably be a couple of weeks (out injured).
“If it (the plantar fascia) is still hanging on, then it might be a little bit longer.”
Bradford also Leon Ruan during their 50-16 defeat to Leeds due to injury.
Max Wood will require further checks on a knee injury during Warrington’s defeat to Leigh, with the prop unable to complete the match due to a knee issue.
Hull FC will be without Davy Litten when they travel to York Knights on Thursday night, having failed a head injury assessment during the Hull derby.
