Hull City retain their interest in Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt, and a permanent move to the MKM Stadium cannot be ruled out in the coming weeks.
Any deal is unlikely to happen in the early weeks of the transfer window, but it’s understood that bringing Gelhardt back before the end of the summer remains a distinct possibility, provided a deal can be agreed with the Whites. That has not yet happened.
Gelhardt wants the move after playing a huge role in not only helping City win promotion to the Premier League last season, but his five goals during a half-season loan spell in 2024/25 were crucial in the Tigers avoiding relegation to League One on the final day of that campaign.
Last season, the 24-year-old Liverpudlian bagged an impressive 15 goals and six assists in his 44 games, becoming City’s second top scorer behind the talismanic Oli McBurnie.
The forward has one year left on his deal at Elland Road and is not expected to feature for Daniel Farke’s side. While there is interest from other suitors in Gelhardt, a permanent switch to the MKM Stadium remains on the agenda.

Since arriving in January 2025, Gelhardt has played 64 times in Black and Amber, scoring 20 times and notching up six assists, firmly becoming a fan favourite.
“It’s a good question, isn’t it? Let’s see what happens over the summer, but it’s pretty clear what I want to do,” the striker told Hull Live when asked if he’d gladly sign a permanent contract now, having previously declared how keen he would be to remain at the MKM Stadium.
Gelhardt’s influence was felt throughout the season, and his two-month spell on the sidelines came as a hammer blow, but he returned to play his part as City surprised everyone by winning promotion to the Premier League.
“It’s amazing, it feels brilliant. To get back to the Premier League with Hull City, I love the club, I’m buzzing, I’m absolutely buzzing,” he said at the time. “It just shows what can happen in 12 months. Under the situations we had, with the embargo, we were always at a disadvantage; everybody had written us off, now we’ve proved everyone wrong, and now we’re off to the Premier League.”
