The popular food store is set to be closed for a few weeks
The Marks and Spencer Food Hall at Anlaby Retail Park will be shut for more than a month from this weekend for a ‘refresh’. After closing at the end of Saturday (January 24), the store is not expected to reopen until March.
Earlier this month, East Riding Of Yorkshire Council approved an application for a number of alterations to the store’s exterior. These included a new main sign which will read “M&S Food.” The current sign reads “M&S Foodhall.”
In addition to external changes, the store is set for a wider “transformation” which will see its doors being closed for a few weeks. On social media the store announced that January 24 will be its last trading day until March. The exact date of its reopening has not been confirmed.
The store added: “Please bear with us while we close for our transformation we can’t wait to see you as we open our doors again very soon. Your nearest M&S store is Kingswood, only a short drive away, and you will find all your M&S favourites, as well as Travel Monday and Click & Collect.
“We are so excited to welcome you back in March – until then we will keep you up to date!” Hull Live has contacted M&S for more information about the changes to the store.
The Anlaby store first opened in July 2010 when it was known as M&S Simply Food. It was the first retailer to open at the then newly-constructed retail park off Springfield Way.
The Anlaby Retail Park store isn’t the only M&S store in the area that is set for change. The current store at Kingswood is planned to close to make way for a new full range store located in part of the nearby Matalan unit which is set to be ready to welcome customers by late 2027.
The new store will be Hull’s first full-line M&S since the closure of the historic Whitefriargate store in 2019. Ever since, shoppers in Hull have had to leave the area to visit a store stocking clothing and homeware ranges with the nearest located in Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Doncaster and York.
