Hull City could have a replacement through the door in the next 48 hours after parting company with sporting director Jared Dublin, with his departure from the MKM Stadium coming with immediate effect.
Dublin arrived after his departure Stoke City in August 2024 and was initially appointed as the club’s head of recruitment, before later being promoted to sporting director by Acun Ilicali 12 months ago following the arrival of Sergej Jakirovic.
Hull Live understands a disagreement over Dublin’s salary increase following promotion is the reason for his sudden exit, with the club feeling his financial demands were too great.
It’s believed Dublin was offered a significant increase by Ilicali, plus a significant bonus should City survive in the Premier League this season. The American, though, is understood to have rejected those terms .
Sources indicate that Ilicali felt the fresh demands were excessive, given the increased offer was regarded by the owner as hugely competitive even by top-flight standards and reflecting of the job Dublin achieved last term.
Dublin enjoyed fine success last season, along with Ilicali, head of recruitment Martin Hodge, and Mustapha Yokes, in bringing in the likes of Oli McBurnie, Joe Gelhardt, Semi Ajayi and Yu Hirakawa, all of whom played key roles in helping the Tigers win promotion.
The search for a successor is underway, and it’s thought the Tigers do have a plan of action to ensure their player trading is not impacted.
Fenerbahce’s former coordinator Okan Özkan is somebody the club have an interest in and could be brought in to succeed the American, discussions are set to get underway in the next 24 hours.
In terms of recruitment, City’s work continues as normal as they prepare for life back in the Premier League, and further new signings are expected in due course.
