‘The home said the wreath is a “beautiful tribute, made with love, care and community spirit, a symbol of remembrance, respect and gratitude’
A 6ft wreath of poppies to commemorate Remembrance Day is making a “bold and meaningful statement” from a veteran-friendly care home in Hull. The team at Hesslewood House on Ferriby Road in Hessle wanted to do something “truly special” to honour the Armed Forces community this year.
With a mission to make a “bold and meaningful” statement of remembrance, veteran champions Alison, Diane and LeAnn set out to create the wreath, with everyone at the care home playing a part in its creation. Thousands of poppies were donated by the The Royal British Legion’s Hessle branch.
Every resident made their own poppy, but several involved went the extra mile, spending their evenings creating over 100 more poppies between them. The home said the wreath is a “beautiful tribute, made with love, care and community spirit, a symbol of remembrance, respect and gratitude, recognising the sacrifices made by members of our Armed Forces, past and present, and ensuring that those who gave so much are never forgotten.”
A spokesperson for Hesslewood House said the home is “incredibly proud of everyone who played a part in bringing this special project to life”.
