Visitors will be able to see the “dozens and dozens of amazing trees” from December 1
Healthy competition between Hull businesses will once again be ignited as local firms battle it out to decorate the most inventive and eye-catching Christmas tree at Hull Minster this December. It is all for a good cause, as money donated will be given to the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal Fund.
Councillor Maria Coward will officially open this year’s Lord Mayor’s Christmas Tree Festival at Hull Minster on Tuesday 1 December, with the festival running all the way up until Christmas Eve.
Participants are asked to donate a minimum of £10 for the privilege of having a tree to decorate and display. They will need to supply their own tree and decorations and lights are permitted on the trees, but must be battery operated only. The public will then be able to view the trees at the minister and take in the designs and decorations.
The Lord Mayor said: “The Christmas Tree Festival at Hull Minster has been going for less than a decade, but has become a popular event with people coming into the city centre during the festive period.
“It’s free to get into Hull Minster to see the dozens and dozens of amazing trees, where businesses and groups from across our area really do a great job with the decorations, as well as explaining the stories behind them. A visit to the festival is an excellent way to get into the Christmas spirit, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what this year’s trees will look like.”
This year, the Lord Mayor has pledged to donate a Christmas tree to someone in the city to help spread some Christmas cheer. She said: “I really want to brighten up someone’s Christmas, particularly at a time when we know people are struggling with the cost of living.”
Decorators will set up their trees at Hull Minster on Monday 30 November between 9am and 3pm. Trees must then be taken down and collected on Monday 4 January between 9am and 3pm.
Anyone wanting to have a decorated tree at Hull Minster for the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Tree Festival should contact the Civic Office on 01482 615 486.
