A new Matalan store will open soon
Matalan has announced its Kingswood store will close today ahead of the re-opening of its replacement. Today (Saturday, November 7) will be the last day of trading in the current unit.
It will reopen next door on Saturday, November 21. In a post on social media, Matalan posted: “We have some exciting changes happening!
“Our Kingswood store will be closing on Saturday 7th November as we prepare to move into our brand-new location next door! But don’t worry, we won’t be going far!
“We’ll be reopening on 21st November in our new store! In the meantime, your nearest Matalan store is Mount Pleasant Retail Park, Hull, where you can continue to shop with us.
“A huge thank you to all our lovely customers for your continued support. We can’t wait to welcome you into our new home! Same great shopping, exciting new surroundings!
A new full M&S store to replace the brand’s Simply Food outlet is set to move into part of the Matalan currently occupies. It is not expected to open until later in 2027.
Hull City Council approved plans 11 months ago which seek to give the city a full M&S store for the first time since the closure of the Whitefriargate store in 2019. The new store on Kingswood Retail Park will take up part of the unit which currently houses Matalan. The unit is to be divided into two with Matalan keeping one side, and M&S moving into the other.
Planning documents submitted to the council earlier in the year explained that “the existing premises is too large for Matalan’s business model requirements.” Similarly it is said that the current M&S food store at Kingswood is “too small to meet M&S’s business model requirements”.
