The free event will take place at the Parkway Cinema on Tuesday 10 November

A free Parkinson’s Café will pop up in Beverley to support people living with the condition and to come together in a screening of a new film which centres around an unlikely friendship between people with Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s UK is hosting the event at the Parkway Cinema, giving people a chance to find out more about local support and activities, meet others and chat with staff from the charity.

And there will be a screening of Onwards and Sideways, a new film written by Paul Mayhew-Archer from podcast Movers and Shakers. The film centres around a friendship which unfolds unexpectedly when two strangers receive a Parkinson’s diagnosis.

The pop-up Parkinson’s café will run from 11am to 7.15pm on Tuesday 10 November at Parkway Cinema and Theatre Beverley, Flemingate, Beverley.

No booking is required, people can drop-in anytime. Onwards and Sideways will be shown at 12pm and 5.10pm, but attendees to the drop-in event do not require a cinema ticket unless they wish to watch the film. Refreshments will be available.

Onwards and Sideways was released in cinemas on Friday 6 November.

Alison Lofas, area development manager, Parkinson’s UK, said: “Being diagnosed with Parkinson’s can be a shock, and adapting to life with the condition can be hard for the person involved and their loved ones too – but we know getting the right information and support at the right time can make all the difference.

“That’s why we’re proud to be able to offer this pop-up Parkinson’s café and share support information alongside the Onwards and Sideways screenings, and are grateful to Parkway Cinema Beverley for their support. I’d encourage anyone living locally who is interested to come along and find out more. No booking is required for the cafe.”
