City have sprung into transfer life in the past few days

Striker Oli McBurnie has praised Hull City for striking a deal to sign Kieran Dowell from Rangers on a free transfer, and is relishing the quality the ex-Everton youngster can bring.

Dowell became City’s second signing of the January transfer window on Friday when he joined from the Scottish giants and is in line to make his debut against McBurnie’s former club Swansea City on Saturday.

McBurnie, who netted his 10th Championship goal of the season in the midweek win at Preston North End courtesy of a debut assist from Yu Hirakawa, will hope for a similar standard of delivery from the creative playmaker.

“The more people that Jared (Dublin, sporting director) can bring in that do that for me, then the more happy I’ll be,” McBurnie told Hull Live.

Though McBurnie has come up against the 28-year-old, their paths have never crossed in the same team, but Dowell is no stranger to both John Lundstram and John Egan. Lundstram played with the former England Under-21 international at both Sheffield United and Rangers, while defender Egan was with him and the midfielder at Bramall Lane.

McBurnie says early scouting reports on Dowell have been promising, as he prepares to launch his City career at the MKM Stadium this weekend.

“Listen, I’ve never played with Dowelly,” he continued. “Lunnie’s played with him at Rangers, Eags (John Egan) played with him at Sheffield United and Lunny played with him at Sheffield United as well, and they’ve only said glowing reports about him, really good things.

“I’ve watched him over the years for Rangers and know how much quality he does have, so, yeah, I’m really excited to have him here and hopefully he can get on board with the boys and crack on.”
