Hull FC assistant coach Simon Grix will join Castleford Tigers next season, the West Yorkshire club have confirmed.
Castleford owner Martin Jepson confirmed the appointment at a fans forum on Thursday night, with the club set to appoint a new head coach after the exit of Ryan Carr.
But Grix will be one of Castleford’s assistant coach’s alongside Luke Robinson and Scott Murrell after spending the last three years at Hull. He was contracted at the Black and Whites for the 2027 season but will now leave the club at the end of the year.
A former player with Halifax Panthers and Warrington Wolves, Grix joined Hull ahead of the 2024 season after spending some time at Hull as a consultant in the Tony Smith era. He then took charge of the Black and Whites on an interim basis after Smith’s dismissal, before returning to an assistant role under former coach John Cartwright in 2025 and then under current interim head coach Andy Last this year.
Of course, Hull are shaking up their coaching and performance departments for the 2027 season and beyond. They have landed former player Scott Taylor to work alongside Last and have appointed hometown man Steve McNamara to be their new head coach.
More backroom changes are coming, with Hull Live first reporting the captures of former Hull KR conditioner Jimmy McDaniel and Leeds Rhinos physiotherapist Dave Ferguson, who previously worked at the club. Nathan Mill will also join from St Helens.
Josh Drinkwater is also set to join Hull as a coach. He has previously worked with McNamara while at Catalans Dragons.
