Warrington Wolves boss Sam Burgess has played down whispers that prop Max Wood could join Hull FC on a season-long loan in 2027 – but admits it is a conversation the club will need to have.
Love Rugby League recently reported that Warrington remain keen to add another prop to their squad for next season, which could see Wood head out on loan to the Black and Whites.
Hull FC interim head coach Andy Last has previously shared his admiration for the prop, after the 22-year-old impressed during two short loan spells at the MKM Stadium, making five appearances in total.
Warrington have already signed Australian props Mitchell Prest and Toby Crosby for 2027, while the potential arrival of a third front-rower could see Wood move out on loan, according to the reports.
Burgess admits he has seen the speculation and says it is something the club will need to discuss, while also praising Wood for the impact he has made.
Wood has made 38 appearances for Warrington since joining from Wigan Warriors, having first impressed Wire boss Burgess during pre-season in 2024 before signing a full-time contract.
He has featured 10 times for the Wolves this year and is part of the travelling squad to face Hull FC this weekend in Super League Round 25.
“I’ve heard of that one,” Burgess said when asked about the reports.
“It’s a discussion we probably need to have, and what works best both ways.
“I know he spent a bit of time there and did a good job, but at the moment he’s in our team and doing a good job.
“But I have heard that one.”
