He channelled his inner Benji last week and he’s showing no signs of slowing down this week.
Harvie Hill scored his first Hull FC try in victory against Catalans Dragons last week. A standard 30 metre dash to the line involving steps and dummies. As you do.
And he’s showing no signs of letting up, with Andy Last describing the prop forward as ‘on fire’ in training this week.
Hull’s only remaining ever-present player this year, Hill has fronted up throughout the season, with Last insisting that he is only going to get better, especially with more support around him, something he hasn’t had this year through long-term injuries and the loss of Liam Knight.
“His level of consistency for a 22-year-old, the minutes he’s been playing, and the workload he’s had to take on have been outstanding,” Last, speaking to Hull Live, said. “He’s been a really good fit for us and he’s only going to get better.
“He’s probably needed a little bit of help from one or two guys around him to contribute a little more but his performances have been good and he should be proud of the year that he’s had.
“He’s carried it on this week. We ended up cutting a drill short today (Thursday) as he threw a left-to-right spiral pass, right on the button, and the lad, I can’t remember who it was, scored in the corner. He’s on fire at the moment, is Harvie, and he’s in good form – he wants the season to continue.”
Undergoing a ‘different’ video review this week, Hull are now looking to back up their win in Perpignan with another performance against Warrington Wolves this Saturday evening.
“The review went down an absolute storm,” Last continued. “We always go down the technical and tactical route. You should be doing this and doing that, but this week, as a bit of a change, we did a video montage of the weekend, with some behind-the-scenes footage, some different camera angles, and some music.
“Harvie Hill’s try came up, and then the room just erupted. Then the second time we showed it, we had a bit of a voiceover with Benji Marshall. The boys thought that was great and that builds a bit of connection and energy to the group after a long period of tough reviews where you’re hitting them over the head a little bit. It was nice to do something a bit different and I think it had the impact that we wanted it to.”
