Former Hull City defender Harry Maguire admits he can’t wait for his return to the MKM Stadium on the opening day of the Premier League season next Saturday.
Maguire remains a firm favourite at City but will wear the red of Manchester United in next weekend’s curtain raiser in front of a sold-out stadium.
The 33-year-old joined City in 2014 from Sheffield United and went on to play 75 times for the Tigers before leaving to join Leicester City three years later, and now, he is primed to return to his old stomping ground as Michael Carrick’s skipper.
Since leaving for the King Power Stadium after City’s relegation from the top flight, Maguire hasn’t come up against his old club, so it will be a special occasion for the Sheffield-born star when the two clubs meet in front of a worldwide television audience.

“That’ll be an amazing occasion for me, first Premier League game, they’ve been promoted as well, so the atmosphere’s going to be electric there,” he said.
“I had an amazing time at Hull, loved the club, loved the fans, and they’ve been a big part of my journey, where I started to believe I was a real top player and could play at the highest level.
“I thank them [Hull] for everything, I thank the fans for everything, but it will not be friendly on the day, first game of the season. I really do wish them all the best this year.”
