Hull FC are hoping to complete a deal to sign Australian centre Jordan Swann for the 2027 season. Hull Live understands the Black and Whites have launched a move for the 24-year-old, who currently plays for Queensland Cup side Wynnum Manly Seagulls.
Not turning 25 until April next year, Swann, who hasn’t featured in the NRL, would be able to secure a work permit after relaxed rules were passed from the RFL to allow Super League clubs the opportunity to secure talent from both the Queensland and New South Wales Cup competitions.
That is a route taken by the likes of Wakefield Trinity and Warrington Wolves in recent years, who have landed the likes of Caius Faatili and Josh Smith, both of whom have impressed in Super League. Hull are now hoping Swann can be the next cab of the rank, so to speak, should the formalities of the deal be formalised.
He would add some depth and competition to incoming head coach Steve McNamara’s side, competing alongside Zak Hardaker and Arthur Romano, with Davy Litten leaving the club at the end of the season to join Wakefield.
Born in Sydney, Swann is a centre by trade and has experience in both the Sydney Roosters and Manly Sea Eagles systems. He is also no stranger to the wing spot, playing in both edge positions in his career, but the majority have come at centre.
A regular for the Seagulls, Swann has eight tries in 11 appearances so far this year and previously played for four teams in the New South Wales Cup, featuring for North Sydney Bears, Newtown Jets, and the Sea Eagles and Roosters, debuting in the competition back in 2022.
Of course, Hull had previously expressed interest in Solomona Faataape, with a swap deal mooted involving hooker Amir Bourouh, but the Catalans Dragons centre chose to join St Helens, who made a late offer and have successfully acquired the player.
However, the club have quickly turned their attention to Swann, who has averaged 131 running metres in the Queensland Cup this season. He has a tackle efficiency of 81.4% and would be backed to make the necessary transition to Super League next year.
The Black and Whites still have quota spots remaining for further 2027 signings. They have signed domestic pair Bailey Hodgson and Alrix Da Costa and are active on the recruitment front with more additions expected ahead of McNamara’s arrival.
