The former owners of the Kirk Ella care home are stepping into retirement after 40 years in the care industry

A couple are retiring after more than 40 years in the care industry, having found new owners to “champion elderly care” at the residential home they own. Jeff and Yvette Donnelly have sold Kirkella Mansions residential care home based in the picturesque village Kirk Ella for an undisclosed sum after calling time on a lengthy career in the industry.

Kirkella Mansions, which provides 24-hour live-in care for the elderly and chronically ill, is registered with the Care Quality Commission for a maximum of 25 residents. At its most recent regulatory inspection the home was rated ‘Good’ in all areas.

Now specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co, has announced the sale of Kirkella Mansions following a confidential sales process, with Elian Care Ltd now taking over.

Mr and Mrs Donnelly said: “After 40 years in the care sector, we felt it was the right time to retire. We are delighted that Elian Care Ltd, through Ola and Rebecca, are taking Kirkella Mansions forward to continue the hard work and dedication this business needs to champion elderly care. We wish them and the team every success for the future.”

A director at Elian Care Ltd added: “We are absolutely delighted to become the new stewards of Kirkella Mansions through Christie & Co and are eager to join such a vibrant local community. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Jeff and Yvette for their incredible dedication over the years.

“They have built a wonderful reputation for heart-led care, and we are honoured to take over the mantle from them. Our focus remains steadfast on providing first-class care and a supportive home for all our residents.

“We look forward to building upon that legacy and working closely with the exceptional staff team to carry on the good work that Jeff and Yvette have fostered at the home.”

Jonathan Wickens, director – care at Christie & Co, said: “It has been a pleasure working with Jeff and Yvette over the years, and we wish them a long, healthy, and happy retirement. Elian Care has demonstrated a strong desire to continue the good work, and we are sure that, with the team that is already in place, the home will go from strength to strength, providing good quality care for the elderly residents of Kirk Ella and surrounding areas.”

At its last CQC inspection in September 2024 the inspectors noted how people and their relatives were all extremely happy with the care they received.

The report highlighted a “family atmosphere throughout the home” and how, “without exception people told us they were happy and there was a strong sense of community and camaraderie.”

It added: “All the people and relatives we spoke with were overwhelmingly positive about the service, the staff and the registered manager. People told us they felt safe and cared for.

“When asked about living at Kirkella Mansions people’s comments included, “Everyone is happy and friendly. My family is very pleased I’m here because they’re not worried, it is lovely”, “We sing every day”, “I’m so lucky to live here, all the [staff] are lovely, I’m so lucky” and “I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.”.
