The 30-year-old’s time in Hull is over

Hull City have confirmed David Akintola has departed the club after agreeing to tear up his contract to facilitate a move to Cypress.

The 30-year-old winger was under contract until next summer, but City have agreed with the player to end the current deal, allowing him to make a switch to Cypriot side Omonoia FC.

Akintola had been expected to depart this summer and his future looked sealed last week when the Tigers named their 25-man squad for the Premier League, with no place in it for the Nigerian.

Having joined from from Turkish Süper Lig side Çaykur Rizespor last summer, Akintola played 21 times as City won promotion to the Premier League, but had been earmarked for an exit for some time.

Hull City confirmed the news in a statement late on Wednesday evening. It reads: “David Akintola’s contract has been mutually terminated in order to allow him to complete a permanent transfer to Cypriot side Omonoia FC.

“The Nigerian winger joined the Tigers from Turkish Süper Lig side Çaykur Rizespor in August 2025 and made 21 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign, scoring once and providing two assists. The 30-year-old made his Hull City debut as a substitute in the 3-2 home victory over Oxford United in August 2025 and went on to play a role throughout the season as the Tigers secured promotion to the Premier League.

“Akintola, who previously enjoyed spells with Adana Demirspor and Hatayspor in Turkey, as well as clubs in Norway and Cyprus, also featured in Hull City’s FA Cup and Carabao Cup campaigns.

“We would like to thank David for his efforts throughout his time at the MKM Stadium and wish him well for the future.”
