The ex-striker turned television pundit is not writing off the Tigers despite their poor run
Ally McCoist admits he would feel immense sympathy for Hull City should the Tigers miss out on a play-off place this weekend, but admits he wouldn’t write them off yet.
City spent four months inside the top six before being dislodged earlier this month amid a run of six games without a win, their worst of the season by some distance, culminating in last weekend’s hugely disappointing 2-1 defeat at struggling Charlton Athletic.
Their poor run has allowed Wrexham to leapfrog them into the top six, with both clubs level on points going into Saturday’s final games, with Derby County only a point further back, and boasting a better goal difference.
Wrexham host a Middlesbrough side gunning for automatic promotion, while Sergej Jakirovic’s men host a Norwich City side who have been in terrific form under ex-Rangers boss Phillipe Clement. For their part, John Eustace’s Rams tackle Sheffield United at Pride Park Stadium.

Southampton’s 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town on Tuesday night ended their hopes of gatecrashing the top two, but they remain the Championship’s form team. Their last league defeat came against City at St Mary’s in February.
“Derby County deserve to be in the mix. But, by the way, what a job Philippe Clement has done at Norwich, right? They were in relegation trouble six weeks ago. I mean, it’s too much for them now on 65 points,” McCoist told talkSPORT Bet Casino.
“But Hull (City) (and Wrexham), on 70, are right up there with Derby (69). That sixth place is right up for grabs. You sneak in sixth place, you take your chance, don’t you? But you talk about momentum there. The one team with incredible momentum is definitely Southampton.
“I would feel for Hull a little bit. It’s one of these things. Those play-offs, by the way, if you’re not in them, they’re magnificent to watch. If you’re in them, it must be agony.
“It’s one of these things. It’s the best invention in British football for years, unless you’re involved in it, the play-offs. You think of some of the drama that those players have given us, particularly those Championship players. I would fear for Hull (City), but in no way was I right to write any of them off.”
