Artell has now hinted developments may hinge on whether the club is promoted to League One and the sort of budget he has next season, adding: “George has been really honest with us and we’ve told him our situation. That’s where we’re at.”

Artell also confirmed the club will consider whether to request the postponements of League Two games against Cambridge United and Chesterfield because of international call-ups.
