City have eight games to claim the points they need to secure a top six finish
Hull City remain on course to secure a place in the Championship’s top six despite suffering a 3-0 thumping at West Brom on Saturday, according to stats experts Opta.
The Tigers’ surprise away defeat at The Hawthorns was their third in their last six games, but they remain inside the play-off zone with only eight games of a fascinating season to go.
As it stands, City have a six-point cushion to the chasing pack, but that gap will be cut if Southampton claim a positive result against in-form Norwich City at St Mary’s on Wednesday night.
The Saints could cut it to just three if they can claim an eighth win in their last 11 games, though they face a resurgent Canaries side that has won eight of its last 10, so Tigers fans will hope the away side can do their team a favour.

According to Opta, City will cling onto fifth place over the course of the next eight games and finish the campaign on 74 points with a 78.86 per cent chance of winning promotion through the play-offs with Millwall backed as current favourites.
Opta believe the table will remain as it is with Coventry City and Middlesbrough going up in the top two, and Ipswich Town, Millwall and Wrexham joining the Tigers in the end of season play-offs.
To get 74 points, Sergej Jakirovic’s men would need another 11 points, and they’ll hope three of those come this weekend when they host already relegated Sheffield Wednesday at the MKM Stadium, looking for a tenth home victory of the campaign so far.
From then, the Tigers go to Oxford United on Good Friday and then host Coventry City in Easter Monday’s late kick-off. City will then face Sheffield United, Birmingham City, Leicester City, Charlton Athletic and Norwich City in their final run of fixtures.
Here’s Opta’s final predicted table…
