How the city could change over the next two decades

  1. Hull City Council’s City Centre Vision (CCV) document that was revealed last year sets out how the city could alter in the next 20 years. The document details a number of developments, some speculative, and some which are currently well underway.
  2. Two of the more speculative proposals in the document include the potential removal of two city centre shopping centres. The document explains that getting rid of both Princes Quay and Prospect Centre are “illustrative options” for the city going forward. Princes Dock, on which Princes Quay sits, could be restored to a waterscape, while Prospect Centre could be replaced by a new mixed use living quarter.
  3. In addition to the more speculative projects, the document also details the “existing pipeline of activity” in the city. While the Queen’s Gardens project and the Maritime Museum’s restoration are underway in the city, the council is also making strides on the Albion Square project and the East Bank Urban Village. The more speculative projects will be able to complement these ongoing / planned schemes.
  4. As well as setting out individual projects which could transform parts of the city, the City Centre Vision also sets out wider aims for the future of the Hull. Retaining and nurturing talent is seen key to the city’s future. A vibrant city centre with plentiful employment opportunities will enhance both the University of Hull’s ability to attract students, and city’s ability to retain graduates, the document explains.
