The Tigers head to Newcastle United with a number of first-teamers

Sergej Jakirovic has given an update on the health of N’Golo Kante following the head injury he sustained last week at Chelsea.

The Hull City defender took a blow to the head while challenging Joao Pedro for the ball in the second half of the clash with the Blues and had to be taken to hospital for further assessment.

Jakirovic ruled him out of this weekend’s clash against Newcastle United while speaking at Stamford Bridge, due to concussion protocols, but he has now confirmed that the defender will link up with the Senegal national team during the international break.

The head coach also confirmed that Matt Targett is rated as a doubt for the trip to his former club Newcastle on Saturday, while Hidemasa Morita isn’t due back in training until the second week of the international break.

“He’s in concussion protocol,” Jakirovic said on Mendy. “He’ll have seven days off after this and then he will go to national team.

“Everything is fine, this is the most important. He will miss this game.

“We have a few more problems, Targett two days ago twisted his ankle so he is questionable. We will see tomorrow.

“Morita is still out and the plan is he will join us after the first week of the international break.”

Charlie Hughes is another who is starting to close in on a return, with the defender struggling with a pubic bone issue.

The defender has been training on his own and he can be expected to join in with the rest of the group over the international break.

“It’s the pubic bone, he is also in protocol,” the Croatian added. “The latest when he went to a specialist in Dublin, the prediction was six weeks. I hope in this.

“He is already on the grass in individual sessions and I hope in the next two weeks he can join the group training and then when you join group training you can have problems, so with the pubic bone, you never know.

“It’s a matter of time but also you can still have problems so we will see. We are very cautious with him and unfortunately right now he cannot help the team.”
