Victoria Molloy will be treating diners at The Old Lamp Room to culinary masterpieces

A chef from Hull who reached the quarter-finals of Masterchef will be serving up some of her famous food from the show at four supper club nights in February. Victoria Molloy will be at The Old Lamp Room in Station Road, Cottingham, on February 6, 7, 13 and 14.

The event starts with Prosecco and Chambourd, handcrafted canapes, roast beef with remoulade on rye, leek and parmesan on filo tart, and olive and red pepper crostini.

Other dishes to follow include, but are not limited to, keralan spiced baked cod, bespoke crispy pigs head terrine, and crisp honeycomb in dark chocolate.

Victoria, who relocated to Middlesbrough, still has connections to the Hull area. She said: “My family is still there, my mum is from Cottingham. I have got very strong roots in Hull and Cottingham.”

A very special dish Victoria concocted for Masterchef was inspired by Hull Fair, which she said was “amazing” to do. “I’m just really grateful and pleased I had the opportunity to showcase what I wanted to do in terms on Hull on such a public platform,” she said.

“It was a fun challenge. I am from Hull, it is a real creative outlet. The whole thing was stressful, but it was a brilliant opportunity and I loved every minute of it. It meant a lot to me, really.”

For anyone intrigued about what to expect from her supper night, she added: “I’ll be cooking at least one of the dishes I did for Masterchef whilst I’m there, and there will be a bit of information about my time on the show and I’ll meet some members of the public.

“I just really want it to be a positive experience – there is such a lot of worry about the hospitality industry in the media lately. It just seems so negative, and everybody seems so down about it.”

Victoria is also working on a cookbook with a twist, which will include local and personal history from Hull. She added: “It’s based on Hull food, but elevated Hull food.

“Let’s say for example cod cheeks – elevating that into a dish that is still representing Hull. So one of the dishes I cooked on the show was cod-based and it had samphire in there and cockles.

“When I was growing up, we used to eat that. We used to go to market and get cod cheeks. So it’s all about showcasing Hull’s food, elevating it a bit, and attaching a story to it.

“If you’ve heard of the patty slappers, it’s incorporating a bit of history in there and I have spoken to my parents and I have stories from my grandparents about the food they used to source when they were in Hull.”

The cost for attending the supper club on one of the nights is £48pp. To book call or message 07827 072917 or drop The Old Lamp Room a message on socials.
