

Here we take a tour around Hull as it was the best part of four decades ago from new developments to still-familiar scenes that have changed somewhat in the decades since. Among the photos are Hull’s Ice Arena still under construction, including a visit from the late Queen to the Kingston Street site.
There’s also a look inside a bustling Pepi’s, in Boothferry Road, and a glimpse of the beloved Bun In The Oven takeaway that was once a firm favourite next to the ABC Cinema, in Ferensway. Those who remember that chilly old bus station will spot a sight that will take you right back, while there’s also a look inside the old Arco Intersport shop that was found on the corner of Jameson Street.
Many will remember the era in the ’80s and ’90s when video rental stores were as ubiquitous as coffee shops are today, with dozens of them around the city and surrounding villages. You’ll spot one of them in the gallery below …
