A huge 80 minutes awaits at the Theatre of Dreams later today.
While much of the rugby league world is talking about Hull KR’s potential treble, captain Elliot Minchella insists the only thing that matters now is the 80 minutes ahead at Old Trafford.
The Robins, having already secured a historic Challenge Cup and the League Leaders’ Shield, are no longer interested in praise for past achievements. Their focus is firmly on the chance to become just the fifth club to win the Super League title.
Willie Peters’ side face reigning champions Wigan Warriors later today at the Theatre of Dreams, with Matt Peet’s Cherry and Whites aiming to secure a third consecutive Grand Final victory.
Hull KR are also looking to avenge last year’s painful 9-2 defeat – the club’s first Grand Final appearance – and will benefit from increased big-game experience and the presence of veteran players such as Kiwi icon Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, who was cleared to play earlier this week following a successful appeal against a Grade C charge.
“This is a one-off game, what’s gone on in the year doesn’t really stand for much anymore,” Minchella said.
“It’s going to be a great Grand Final and both teams are deserving of being here.
“We’ve got a lot of respect for Wigan as a club from top to bottom. This is a Grand Final, 80 minutes to finish the season.
“It’s been a good year so far, but that’s done. This is the one that both teams want to win and we’re all going to give it our best and hopefully the game is decided by a piece of brilliant skill. It should be a good spectacle for everybody.”
