A Brough-based bread business is offering a Big ‘Dough-nation’ – a hefty delivery of freshly-baked sourdough bread – to a worthy cause to recognise those making a difference in their community. It’s all part of Sourdough September celebrations, an initiative started last year by Luke’s Bakery.
The firm is inviting nominations for local heroes across Yorkshire or North Lincolnshire. The lucky chosen ones will receive a free delivery of his sourdough loaves as a treat for the organisations’ hard-working teams.
Charities, community groups, public service teams and voluntary organisations are all eligible for nominations. The campaign aims to recognise those making a difference in their local communities, and Luke himself will choose one or more worthy winners based on social media nominations.
The chosen ones will receive a fresh bread delivery on Wednesday 30 September, hand-delivered by Luke himself. The bread can be used however they like, but suggestions include a tea and toast break, a team breakfast or some extra special sourdough sandwiches.
One or more winning organisations will be selected by Luke and his team from all eligible nominations received. Luke said: “2025’s Big Dough-nation was one of the highlights of our year here at the bakery, so of course we had to bring it back, this time for Sourdough September. We’re a proud Yorkshire business and always looking for ways to give back to our community. There are so many incredible people out there, working hard to make a difference, so please help us find them and say a big thank you with some seriously tasty bread!”
To nominate an organisation, visit the Luke’s Bakery Facebook page or Instagram page and comment on the Big ‘Dough-nation’ post by 5pm on Friday 25 September with the name of the organisation and why they deserve a free bread delivery. Read the terms and conditions here.
