The Tigers striker has been named in the latest Scotland squad
Hull City striker Oli McBurnie has been called out of the international wilderness after being named in Sébastien Pocognoli’s first squad. Despite a brilliant season in helping the Tigers to promotion to the Premier League, McBurnie was constantly overlooked by previous manager Steve Clarke and was left out of Scotland’s World Cup squad.
For a side that struggled to score goals, it appeared a strange decision. New boss Pocognoli has come with a clean slate and as such he’s turned to the vastly experienced striker, who played his 100th Premier League game at the weekend.
McBurnie is part of an expanded 28-man squad that will get together for Scotland’s start in the Nations League. In this new-look international window that lasts three weeks, Scotland will play four games in the Nations League, at home to Switzerland and Slovenia, while also playing away in Slovenia and North Macedonia.
The City striker has 16 caps for his country, but last featured in 2021 and returns after a five-year absence.
