Cho was Hull City’s 12th summer signing, arriving just a few days before deadline day

Mohamed-Ali Cho has been a Hull City player for just two weeks but he’s already playing an important role within Sergej Jakirovic’s squad.

Cho was one of 18 signings made by the Tigers throughout the summer transfer window, with the forward joining from Nice the week before the club’s deadline day spending spree.

The 22-year-old was born in France and he has played most of his football there, too, with a spell coming in the Paris Saint-Germain academy before he made his professional debut with Angers. And, he joined Nice in 2024 after a brief spell in Spain with Real Sociedad.

However, a big chunk of his childhood was spent living in London and he was on the books at Everton during his formative years as a player and a person.

Cho speaks perfect English as a result and because of that, he has already taken on responsibility of helping those who might not be so confident speaking English adapt to life in East Yorkshire, namely Nobel Mendy and Robinio Vaz.

Unlike Cho and Lucas Gourna-Douath, who also speaks strong English, Mendy and Vaz are still getting to grips with the language and the former France youth international has been acting as a translator.

“It’s been amazing so far,” Cho told Hull Live. “The boys have been really helpful, obviously there’s quite a few of us [new signings] but they’ve been really helpful with us and I’ve been staying with the French guys quite a bit. We’re trying to adapt ourselves the best we can.

“They’re settling in really good. It’s a bit harder for them, Lucas has adapted because he already speaks English but Nobel and Robbie don’t speak English properly yet.

“They’ve been amazing so far and the lads have been amazing with us and them especially that don’t speak as good English as us.

“I’ve been translating quite a bit since I’ve been here. It’s been quite funny but it’s been good.”

After stepping off the bench against Coventry and Aston Villa, Cho made his full debut for City in the Carabao Cup loss to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday night.

He had some bright moments in the contest too, with the winger working to create a couple of opportunities on Wearside and the hope is that he can now kick on and take his chance to prove himself in the Premier League as the season progresses.

“It’s always good to get some minutes and especially in a new team,” he said. “Obviously it’s not the result we wanted but I’m happy to get to know the new boys as well, getting to know them on the pitch.

“[The transfer] was quite long but when I arrived here I was really happy and I wanted to get started as soon as possible.

“Nice were good to me. I wanted the new challenge of being in the Premier League is going to be good for me, it’s going to be amazing.”

Asked where he prefers to play given he was seen on the right and through the middle against the Black Cats, he added: “I just want to be on the pitch.

“Wherever the gaffer wants me, I’ll be there and play. I feel like offensively, you have to be mobile and make the runs in behind, that’s my play and I feel like I can do that anywhere in the front three. I’m just happy to be on the pitch to be honest.”
