Irwin has been struggling to walk following Lewis’ challenge at Craven Park

Warrington Wolves half-back Ewan Irwin has been sent for an X-ray following Mikey Lewis’ challenge on Tuesday evening, Sam Burgess has confirmed.
In attempting to charge down Irwin’s kick, Lewis caught the youngster’s kicking leg with his boot. The Robins man was sin-binned for his efforts and Burgess slammed the challenge in his post match press conference labelling it ‘very dangerous’.
Lewis has now been hit with a two-game suspension from the Match Review Panel and while he is eligible to feature this week, Willie Peters has opted to drop him from his KR squad in order to send a stern message.
As such, the England international won’t play in round 24 and the Warrington man is considered a doubt too, as the club await the results of scans and X-rays.
Detailing the injury, Burgess confirmed Irwin hasn’t been moving well since the clash with KR with the issue stemming directly from that incident with Lewis.
“Ewan had to go for scans and X-rays yesterday,” Burgess said when he spoke to the press on Friday morning, per the Warrington Guardian.
“We’re still waiting on those results. He’s not walking too good so I’d say he’ll be in a bit of doubt for this week at least.”
Giving an update on the other injuries Warrington sustained at Craven Park on Tuesday night, Burgess confirmed that Josh Thewlis, who was forced off the field in east Hull, could be fit enough to feature against Hull FC next week.
The head coach was unable to give an update on the fitness of Toff Sipley though, with the club still waiting for the results of a scan to come back.
“Josh isn’t as bad as we first thought,” Burgess added. “He’ll probably push to play against Hull FC next week, so he’s out for Sunday. If it’s not next week, he’ll definitely be back for Wakefield after that.
“With Toff, we’re still waiting for results. He got scanned yesterday so we should know any time today, so we’ll have to wait and see.”
