The owner is appealing for information about the stolen bike which was taken just a few weeks after he bought it

A Hull motorbike owner who was enjoying an afternoon at the Hornsea Bike Show was dismayed to see his own vehicle had been stolen from the car park – just six weeks after buying it. The distraught owner returned to the car park following an afternoon enjoying the Hogarth Park event with family members to see his 125CC CBR bike was missing.
The owner, who did not wish to be named, said: “There were police and security walking around and thousands of bikes. It got the lock snapped off and pushed down the hill out the exit. There was a steering lock on it but you can just kick that. It had a screamer on it, maybe they pried it off.” His black and silver bike was taken at some time in the afternoon while he enjoyed the Hornsea bike event. Another motorist’s helmet was taken, meaning he could not return to his home in Halifax on his bike.
This is the second bike the owner has had stolen and he had owned this particular bike for just six weeks. He arrived at the show at around 1.30pm on Sunday, August 16 with three family members. “I was having to rush off to work so I got to the bike at about 4.30pm. My brother was joking saying ‘I can’t see your bike’ trying to wind me up a bit after my first one. We got closer and it was gone. We had a search round after that but there was nothing.”
He says that a bike that looks like his has shown up on social media in Bransholme, and has been contacted by several people claiming to have the bike and are asking for money in exchange for the bike’s return. He does not believe any of the profiles actually have his property, and says the profiles are likely to be scammers taking advantage of his misfortune.
He said one of the things he is “most annoyed about” is the fact the security was not as present near the bike parking as it was in the rest of the event. “There was security, they did something. There are tons of cameras, it’s all one way, and there are cops everywhere. Where we were ushered to park ours, it’s near the exit of the park where there was no police, no security, nothing. They could see the bike was near the exit, roll it off and start it when there were no eyes on them. It’s weird that no bikers saw it and wondered why he wasn’t starting it up.”
A spokesperson for Hornsea Events CIC, which put on the event, said the events team “takes the safety and security of everyone attending our events extremely seriously”. It said there were marshals at entrances and exits to all parking areas, as well as the main entrance and exit to the park, and Humberside Police officers were also in attendance.
The statement continued: “Following the theft, we have shared information across all of our social media channels and relevant biker groups, asking anyone with information or footage to come forward. We have supported the owner in every way we possibly can and, through these efforts, we have received information suggesting that the stolen bike is now being advertised for sale on Snapchat in Bransholme. This information has been passed on accordingly.
“We are extremely disappointed that this incident has occurred, particularly as the Hornsea Bike Show has grown into what is now one of Yorkshire’s biggest one-day bike shows. The safety of our visitors, bikers and the wider community is incredibly important to us. As a result of this incident, we will be carrying out a full review and assessment of our security and event procedures. We will look at what further measures we can put in place to reduce the risk of something like this happening again at our fantastic event.”
A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to reports of a theft of a black motorcycle from a property on Newbegin, Hornsea which is believed to have occurred between 3pm and 5pm on Sunday, 16 August 2026. If anyone witnessed the incident or has any information that may assist officers with their ongoing enquiries, please contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 344 of 16 August. Alternatively, you can report anonymously via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
