Molly Mangan’s upstairs fan zone was such a hit with World Cup fans that it will return as the Tigers take on Manchester United

A fan zone that drew crowds during the World Cup is back as Hull City prepare to face Manchester United in the first game of the Premier League season – with a 90-minute bottomless beer offer. The area above Molly Mangan’s is making a comeback as the top flight season gets underway next weekend. The upstairs space at the Newland Avenue bar was popular with World Cup supporters. Now the venue is inviting Tigers fans in for pie and bottomless pints for the 90-minute match.

Anyone can head upstairs, grab a pint and watch the match in the fan zone as normal, without having to book. But for those who fancy making an afternoon of it, Molly’s is also offering the bottomless beer package. Early-bird tickets cost £28, rising to £35, and include pie and mash along with bottomless house lager, Stella or Magners for the 90 minutes of the match.

Beer will be served from kick-off until the final whistle, with service paused during the half-time break to keep the bottomless period to 90 minutes. Fans who would rather make theirs a Guinness can upgrade at the bar for an extra £5.

Lauren Hull, general manager at Molly Mangan’s, said: “The World Cup fan zone was absolutely brilliant. There were games when the atmosphere upstairs was just mad, so as soon as Hull City got back into the Premier League we knew we had to do something with it again.

“And what a game to start with. Manchester United at home is massive. We want people to come down, get behind City and make some noise. You absolutely don’t have to do the bottomless offer either. If you just want to come upstairs, buy yourself a pint and watch the match with everyone else, that’s exactly what the fan zone is there for.”

Molly Mangan’s co-owner Jack Mangan hopes Hull City’s return to the top flight can bring that atmosphere back throughout the new season. He said: “Hull’s going to have some unbelievable football to look forward to this season and we want this to be one of the places where people come together to watch it.

“The World Cup showed us how good that room can be when it’s full and everyone’s living every kick. Now it’s City in the Premier League, and you couldn’t really ask for a better way to kick it off than Manchester United. There’ll be plenty of beer, plenty of shouting at the screen and hopefully three points at the end of it.”

There will also be a charity raffle during the half-time interval, with a signed Hull City shirt up for grabs. The framed shirt has been signed by members of the Tigers squad, with money raised from the raffle going to Hull and East Yorkshire Mind.

After the final whistle, live music will continue downstairs. For Molly’s, the Manchester United game is intended to be just the beginning, with the upstairs fan zone set to become a home for supporters wanting to watch Hull City’s Premier League adventure together.

City will take on Manchester United in the opening day of the Premier League on Saturday, August 22, with kick off at 12.30pm. The fan zone is open to everyone and no ticket is needed to join in upstairs, buy drinks and watch the match. The bottomless package costs £28 for an early bird or £35 for general admission, and includes pie and mash plus bottomless house lager, Stella or Magners during the 90 minutes of the match. The Guiness upgrade will cost £5 and can be paid for at the bar.

Serving times will run from kick-off until the final whistle, with service paused during half-time.
