‘We’re very proud to be making a difference to the lives of so many people affected by cancer’

Major Hull employer Ideal Heating has told of its pride to be making a difference after raising a milestone £325,000 for a leading cancer charity. The company invited representatives from Macmillan Cancer Support to its headquarters in Hull, to toast reaching the six-figure sum for the charity having first started its support for the charity in 2018.

Ideal and its employees, alongside colleagues from sister companies within Groupe Atlantic UK and Republic of Ireland, have supported Macmillan, which works to help people living with cancer and their families, through a whole host of sponsored challenges, bake sales and other fundraisers.

On average, more than £40,000 has been raised for Macmillan every year during the partnership, helping hundreds of thousands of people across the UK receive the support they need.

Miriam Moore, HR Director, Ideal Heating and Groupe Atlantic UK and Republic of Ireland, said: “Through our ongoing partnership with Macmillan, we’re very proud to be making a difference to the lives of so many people affected by cancer. We’re delighted to have reached the £325,000 milestone, but we’re not stopping there. Our colleagues continue to find new and more creative ways of raising money, which reflects the community spirit and ethos we have embedded within our business.”

Ideal Heating, which opened its new tech centre earlier this year, employs around 800 people at its headquarters site in National Avenue, Hull. Macmillan is Ideal’s chosen corporate charity, and the latest landmark represents years of fundraising through sponsored runs, hikes, swims, bakes sales and countless other activities.

Every month, Ideal employees contribute £1 to wear casual clothes on a Friday. The “dress down Friday” initiative raises around £900 each month, donated to both Macmillan and other charities close to workers’ hearts. Employees have also donated to Macmillan through Ideal’s staff boiler purchase scheme, where team members can buy company products at a reduced price, with the difference donated to the charity.

The £325,000 raised for Macmillan is enough to run the charity’s Online Community platform, supports more than 600,000 people affected by cancer in the UK, for over a year. Ideal’s fundraising total could also support the Cancer Information Nurse Specialists on Macmillan’s dedicated Support Line for over 25 days. Over that time, the team could support nearly 2,500 people affected by cancer, providing a wide range of specialist information, such as how to manage side effects, treatment options, and coping with grief.

Hannah Wragg, Macmillan’s Relationship Fundraising Manager, said: “Thank you so much to Groupe Atlantic for their dedication and commitment to supporting Macmillan Cancer Support and achieving the incredible milestone of raising £325,000.
