Hull KR will not pursue a move for Castleford Tigers captain Alex Mellor despite recent reports linking the Robins with the experienced forward, Hull Live can reveal.
Recent reports suggested Mellor had attracted interest from several Super League clubs, including the Robins, with speculation growing the club were preparing a move to add Mellor to the squad for Nathan Cayless next season.
It is our understanding Hull KR are surprised by the recent links and are not in the market for the 31-year-old, who is under contract at the OneBore Stadium until the end of the 2027 Super League season as things stand.
The Robins’ are looking to do some business but the club’s transfer activity is expected to be minimal ahead of the 2027 campaign, with the club currently operating at the full salary cap.
They are expected to recruit a replacement for Rhyse Martin, who will retire at the end of the 2026 season following Papua New Guinea’s Rugby League World Cup campaign.
The experienced, goal-kicking back-rower will remain working alongside Willie Peters in Papua New Guinea, with the Hull KR head coach taking up the role of PNG Chiefs football operations manager from 2027.
Tom Whitehead is under contract at Sewell Group Craven Park until the end of 2028 following his move from Warrington Wolves, but Hull KR are exploring potential options to replace Martin’s experience within the squad for 2027 and beyond.
Meanwhile, Tevita Pangai Junior will return to action next week after completing his six-match suspension. This weekend’s trip to Castleford Tigers will be the final game he misses.
Pangai Junior, 30, is currently contracted until the end of the 2026 season, having arrived mid-season after a short stint in French rugby union.
