A handful of the region’s pubs have been selected among the UK’s best, a new list has revealed. The Telegraph has compiled a new guide featuring more than 600 pubs across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Their criteria includes charming character, welcoming staff, rich history and award-winning beer. And among the chosen inns are venues from across Hull and East Yorkshire.
Recommendations cover cosy countryside establishments to bustling city centre hostelries including places for solo drinkers, groups of friends and families. The Telegraph’s panel of six experts considered atmosphere, happiness and cosiness and a sense of place, along with the quality of beer – particularly cask ale.
They say few micropubs have made the list nationally because – despite serving good beer – many can be “short on ambience and history” with only a select few making the grade. Similarly, there are said to be few gastropubs on the list because inclusion is contingent on being able to buy a drink alone
