Event has been a highlight of the town’s summer calendar for more than 50 years

Bridlington RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew and fundraisers are ready to welcome the public to the 2026 open day. The event, which has been a highlight of the town’s summer calendar for more than half a century, will take place between 11am and 4pm on Saturday, July 25, at Bridlington Lifeboat Station.
Visitors will have the chance to meet the volunteer crew and fundraisers, discover what it takes to be part of the RNLI and get up close to the station’s two lifeboats, the Shannon class all-weather lifeboat “Antony Patrick Jones” and the D class inshore lifeboat “Ernie Wellings”. This year’s open day will feature many of the favourites that regular visitors have come to enjoy, including stalls selling cakes and refreshments, a tombola, raffle and entertainment throughout the day.
Both lifeboats will be on display on the beach, while volunteer crew members will be on hand to talk about lifesaving at sea and answer questions about the RNLI’s work. There will be plenty of family-friendly activities for all ages, including welly wanging, a throw-a-bag challenge, the Ready Steady Crew dress-up challenge and the ever-popular Soak the Crew.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about water safety and the vital role Bridlington RNLI plays in keeping people safe around the coast. Bob Taylor, Bridlington RNLI Lifeboat water safety officer, said: “The open day remains one of the most important events in the station’s calendar, providing an opportunity for the community and visitors alike to learn more about the RNLI’s lifesaving work.
“It enables us to showcase our lifeboats, equipment and facilities, while highlighting the dedication, professionalism and commitment of our volunteer crew. We are extremely grateful for the continued support of the public.
“The generosity of our supporters, whether through donations, volunteering or attending events such as this, plays a vital role in ensuring that we can continue to provide a 24-hour search and rescue service and remain ready to save lives at sea throughout the year.”
The event is free to attend, and all money raised during the day will support the RNLI’s lifesaving work around the coast of the UK and Ireland.
