A bad-tempered and aggressive troublemaker was heard “shouting constantly and swearing loudly” after police were called in during a serious disturbance. Sam Mhedbi was causing such a frightening disturbance that shocked people living in nearby homes came outside to see what was going on.
He was found with heroin and cannabis after police arrived and he had already narrowly avoided prison after drug supply offences, Hull Crown Court heard. Mhedbi, 28, of Hampshire Street, off Hessle Road, west Hull, admitted using threatening words or behaviour and possessing heroin and cannabis on September 20 last year.
An earlier hearing in February was told that police went to Mhedbi’s mother’s home after being sent there on a call-out. Mhedbi was spotted and he was searched but he was “shouting constantly and swearing loudly” – causing people to come out of other nearby properties out of concern.
Mhedbi shouted insults to his mother. Two packets of heroin were found in a jacket pocket. He told police: “You might as well add public order to the offences, mightn’t you?”
He was arrested for threatening behaviour and a joint of cannabis was found. He told police: “I don’t give a f***.” He admitted possessing both drugs.
He had convictions for 13 previous offences, including being given a 26-week suspended prison sentence. He was in breach of an 18-month suspended sentence imposed at Hull Crown Court on July 15, 2024 for possessing heroin and cocaine with intent to supply, with a consecutive six months suspended for possessing a blade in public.
Hannah Turner, mitigating, said that sentence had been adjourned at the earlier hearing in February for Mhedbi to prove that he could keep out of trouble, not commit any more offences and comply with the probation service. “He has fully complied and seems to have been doing very well since he was last before the court,” said Miss Turner.
Judge John Thackray KC told Mhedbi: “I gave you a chance and you took it. Make sure you carry on with the good work or you will find yourself in a lot of trouble.”
Mhedbi was given 15 days’ rehabilitation and he was fined £100 for breaching the suspended sentence.
