Where disruption can be expected on the roads around the city

Motorists in Hull are being warned of potential delays as Hull City Council releases its latest weekly traffic and travel update for ongoing and upcoming works in the area. It features a list of scheduled highway improvements, utility installations, and investigation projects set to impact key routes across the city.

Some disruption is expected to continue at critical bottlenecks, including the full closure of Drypool Bridge for ongoing structural repairs and major roundabout upgrades on Ennerdale and Wawne Road. Drivers are being strongly urged to double-check their routes, consider public transport where possible, and allow extra time for their journeys.

Below is the breakdown of upcoming and ongoing roadworks scheduled to impact the area beyond June 28:

• Alfred Gelder Street: Highway improvement works between Lowgate and Drypool Bridge are underway from June 15, 2026, and are expected to run until late July, 2026. A full road closure is currently in place.
• Anlaby Road: Northern Powergrid utility works outside 374 Anlaby Road began on June 23, 2026, and are scheduled for completion on June 29, 2026. A lane closure is active.
• Arnold Lane: O2 utility works will require multi-way signals from July 6, 2026, until July 10, 2026.
• Ashcombe Road: Excavation works in the footway to supply utilities to plots 125–140 of a new development will take place from July 6, 2026, to July 17, 2026, requiring multi-way signals.
• Barham Road: A Northern Powergrid cable replacement scheme at the Marfleet Lane junction is ongoing from June 10, 2026, and will continue until August 24, 2026. Multi-way signals are active.
• Barnes Way: Footway excavations for utility connections to new development plots 125–140 will run from July 6, 2026, to July 17, 2026, utilizing multi-way signals.
• Carden Avenue: Northern Powergrid utility works are ongoing from June 16, 2026, and will remain in place with multi-way signals until June 30, 2026.
• Commercial Road: Road core investigatory work by Hull City Council will take place on July 7, 2026, under multi-way signals.
• County Road South: Core investigatory works from numbers 109 to 135 will be carried out on July 8, 2026, requiring two-way signals.
• Drypool Bridge: The bridge remains under a full closure to all vehicles and pedestrians for major structural repairs and strengthening. This project, which started on May 27, 2026, is expected to last until late July.
• Ellerburn Avenue: Remedial defect repairs from York Road to the 6th Avenue junction are scheduled for June 30, 2026, using multi-way signals.
• Ennerdale: Major roundabout improvement works that commenced on March 2, 2026, are set to continue with active lane closures until October 29, 2026.
• Essex Street: Emergency repairs to a burst water main outside number 86 began on June 26, 2026, and are expected to keep the road closed until June 30, 2026.
• Ferensway: Core investigatory works at the Osborne Street junction and its approaches will prompt lane closures from July 3, 2026, to July 4, 2026.
• Hessle Road: MS3 utility works that started on June 12, 2026, will continue with multi-way signals until June 29, 2026.
• Inglemire Lane: A Northern Powergrid cable replacement scheme at the Auckland Avenue junction is underway from June 20, 2026, and will last until August 21, 2026, under multi-way signals.
• Jarrett Street: Ongoing installation of district heating pipework will enforce a road closure between Bond Street and Worship Street. The work began on May 26, 2026, and is slated to finish by July 12, 2026.
• Laburnum Avenue: Yorkshire Water repairs to a burst main at the Acacia Drive junction started on June 18, 2026, and are set to keep multi-way signals in place until June 29, 2026.
• Logan Close: BT utility works at the junction of Midmere Avenue will run from June 29, 2026, to July 10, 2026, utilising multi-way signals.
• Madeley Street: Core investigatory works from Fishermans Walk to the Rawling Way/Hessle Road roundabout will require lane closures on July 8, 2026.
• Manchester Street: Utility works extending from Hessle Road to the Asda car park will force a road closure from July 6, 2026, until August 1, 2026.
• Marfleet Lane: Northern Powergrid utility works at the Barham Road junction are underway from May 18, 2026, and will finish on July 2, 2026. Two-way signals are being manually operated between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
• National Avenue: Core investigatory works from Bontoft Avenue to Perth Street West will take place on June 30, 2026, using multi-way signals.
• Ryehill Grove: Yorkshire Water utility works opposite number 37 will require two-way signals from July 6, 2026, to July 10, 2026.
• Shannon Road: Council road core investigations are scheduled for July 7, 2026, under multi-way signals.
• Stoneferry Road: Utility connection works for the Stagecoach bus depot will introduce a lane closure from Withernsea Street to Foster Street between June 29, 2026, and July 1, 2026.
• Wawne Road Roundabout: The major council improvement scheme connecting Bude Road, Wawne Road, and Holwell Road remains active. The road closure started on May 8, 2026, and is scheduled to be in place until August 6, 2026.
• Winchester Avenue: Northern Powergrid works from the Marfleet Lane junction will be under multi-way signals from June 23, 2026, to July 2, 2026.
• 14th Avenue: Utility works extending from 14th Avenue to 22nd Avenue are currently active under two-way signals, having started on June 10, 2026, with an expected completion date of July 6, 2026.
