She later swung her arm towards the face of a custody warden

An aggressive woman spat straight in a female police officer’s face – causing the constable to need injections and medication. Amy Moran also turned nasty the next day with a custody warden at the police station and refused to be booked in before swinging her arm towards his face.
She had a long history of crime, including for violence, and she was adamant that she wanted to be jailed rather than being released from custody, Hull Crown Court heard. Moran, 42, from Hull, but recently of no fixed address, admitted two offences of assaulting a police officer as an emergency worker on April 12 and 13.
Jane Rapin, prosecuting, said that, at about 8pm on April 12, Moran went to the front desk at Clough Road police station, Hull, and told the front desk staff that she was wanted. Officers were called in and checks were carried out but it was confirmed that she was not wanted.
A female constable went outside to speak to Moran. The officer was aware that Moran had previously gone to police stations because she had nowhere to stay.
The constable intended to discuss housing options with Moran and she and another officer went outside to speak with her. The female officer was standing in front of Moran.
“Suddenly and without any warning, the defendant stood up and intentionally spat at the officer,” said Miss Rapin. “The spittle landed in the officer’s mouth and on her face.”
Moran was arrested. The female officer was advised by the custody nurse to go to Hull Royal Infirmary.
She did so and, because of the risk of infection, blood samples were taken. Injections were given to her and medication was provided for hepatitis and HIV. The officer had to go back to the hospital the next day for further injections and blood tests.
On April 13, a custody warden at Clough Road police station was asked to go to a cell where Moran was being kept. He opened the cell door and asked Moran to come to the desk to be booked in.
“The defendant was obstructive and refused to do so,” said Miss Rapin. Moran refused to leave the cell, got up and approached the officer. She tried to push him but he pushed her back.
He continued trying to talk to her but she swung her right arm towards his face. Her fist made contact with his lip but did not cause any injury.
Moran appeared for the hearing in custody on remand but she told the court that she wanted to be given a prison sentence, rather than being released back into the community. She had convictions for 30 previous offences, between 2003 and earlier this year.
They included two involving assaults and four of public disorder. The most recent was for criminal damage on March 31.
Moran was jailed for one year.
