Work will begin to fix underlying structural issues on Anlaby Park Community Library. Hull City Council has invited tender submissions for structural repair works for the library on The Greenway, Anlaby Road.
The library’s services will operate out of a temporary building while remedial work goes on. It says that up to now, “interim measures” have been in place to keep the building operating, but “a decision has been made to undertake more comprehensive remedial work” to fix underlying issues that could threaten the library’s future.
Work is expected to begin later this year. The council has invited tender submissions for the structural repair works, which it says will “safeguard the long-term viability of Anlaby Park Library”. The proposed works focus on stabilising affected areas of the building and strengthening key structural elements.
The works are being carried out “to ensure the continued operation of the facility for the community as a thriving hub, where the council’s library services work in partnership with the Friends of Anlaby Park Library to provide a broad range of day-to-day activities,” the council said. During the works, the library will be running a reduced service from a nearby temporary building in the park.
In a joint statement, Cllr Jackie Dad, deputy leader of the council with responsibility for libraries and culture, and Cllr Jack Haines, portfolio holder for communications, said: “For years, Anlaby Park Community Library has served residents and the council recognises its importance as a valued hub in the community. We are delighted to be able to deliver this investment so that people can enjoy the facility for years to come and look forward to delivering a safe and welcoming environment at Anlaby Park Library.”
Prospective contractors have been asked to submit bids through YORtender, with the submission deadline set for Wednesday, July 8. Works are anticipated to commence on site later this year.
