Hull FC continue to make inroads in their infrastructure appointments for 2027 and beyond, with Scott Taylor set to return to his hometown club. The former prop won’t be the only addition ahead of next season, with work well underway to bolster backroom, medical, and conditioning departments, as well as training regimes and pitch solutions, ahead of new head coach Steve McNamara’s first pre-season this autumn. Hull FC make backroom appointment
Hull FC have made no secret that they will look to improve their infrastructure this off-season. They have got the ball rolling on that front with Scott Taylor joining the club as one of new head coach Steve McNamara’s assistant coaches next year.
Taylor will be joined by Nathan Mill, the current long-serving St Helens physio, who has worked with McNamara before in the England setup. A long-term employee of the Saints, Mill will join the Black and Whites ahead of pre-season training this autumn, with Hull continuing to shake things up off the field. It’s understood that they will make more appointments to bolster their backroom in the coming weeks and months, with McNamara putting things in place to give Hull the best chance of on-field success.
Welcome changes
The incoming additions to Hull FC’s backroom staff are welcome for current interim coach Andy Last, who will work under McNamara next year. The Hull-born coach is anticipating changes to the club’s infrastructure and is buoyed by the journey Hull are on – with the club, who have been on a tough run, seeing some leaders emerge to help take them into the future.
“I know what’s coming in the future,” Last said. “We’re going through a little bit of a tough time now, but that’s Hull FC, and it makes you enjoy the highs when they come, and when those highs come, I’m going to enjoy them for a little bit longer.
“When you’re in these lows, you’ve just got to embrace it and look for the positives. I’m looking now at the group and seeing who the characters are, who the real leaders are when there’s a little bit of adversity, and who is prepared to roll the sleeves up that extra inch and dig in. There are a lot of players who are coming out of this period with ticks in the credit bank because they’re showing the right type of character and they’re the type of people that you can move forward with.
“We also get some positives in terms of a new coach coming in and potentially new facilities and possibly a couple new signings here and there. This club has got the foundations to be a really, really strong club. We’re doing it a little bit tough at the moment, but I know that will get there in the end.”
Sticking with the positive theme…
Hull FC got a much-needed win against Huddersfield last Saturday, with Last looking to channel the positive energy ahead of what he hopes will be an improved second half of the Super League season for the Black and Whites.
Speaking prior to the win which ended a run of four successive defeats, Last said: “You have days where you feel as though everything’s against you, but then it’s important to try and reflect and look at the positives. I’m doing a job that I absolutely love at a club that I absolutely love, and as much as there are some negatives that come with the role, there are also lots of positives.
“There aren’t many people that can say that they’re leading their hometown club and then giving out debuts to young lads, seeing their faces when you announce a team and they’re in it, and seeing the likes of young Lloyd Kemp getting another opportunity to build on the careers that they are having. They are really exciting things. It depends what type of person you are. You’re either glass half full or half empty. I’m excited by the challenge.”
Hull FC continue impressive crowd numbers
Hull FC have recorded an attendance of 12,000 or more for all seven of their home games so far in 2026. The club recorded an impressive 16,653 crowd for their opener against Bradford Bulls, with 12,000 crowds following in their last six games. It leaves their average at 13,026 for the season to date – with a Hull derby still to come. Only Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors have recorded better numbers in Super League this year.
Academy earn victory
Hull FC academy defeated Leigh Leopards 38-26 at the University of Hull on Friday night. The Black and Whites led 22-16 at half-time, with a brace coming from Kingsley Sharpe.
Women beaten in Derby
Hull FC women were defeated 20-12 by Hull KR on Sunday afternoon. The Black and Whites led 12-6 at half-time. However, a strong second half from the Robins earned them the win.
