Hull City are planning on sending scouts to watch the World Cup in North America, Canada and Mexico this summer, but Jared Dublin says the club are keen not to get caught up in the hysteria surrounding the tournament.
The tournament kicked off on Thursday at the iconic Azteca, and then 24 hours later, City star Liam Millar made his World Cup debut in Canada’s 1-1 draw with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Naturally, players emerge from the shadows and attract sudden interest if they hit a purple patch during the tournament, and some can earn big moves before struggling to replicate the form they showed on the big stage.

Dublin says the Tigers will have a cursory look at players, and perhaps have another look at ones they’d already identified for their first Premier League campaign in a decade, but warned that the club would not change the process that has worked in the recent past.
“There is an appetite to send scouts to the World Cup to have a look at some players, but a lot of the work’s been done already in terms of the ones that we think can help us,” the City chief told Hull Live.
“There is an element at play where we don’t want to get caught up in tournament fever, where you have someone who has a purple patch for two weeks or three weeks, and you think they’re a world beater all of a sudden.
“There’s a lot of work that goes into the recruitment process, and nothing will be determined by just two games, you know, so you go watch a player because you’ve watched four, five or six full 90 minutes, different scouts, different reports, and then you go watch them live to see the elements that you don’t catch on camera.
“To say a yes or no on a World Cup game wouldn’t be the process for me, but sending scouts there for the right teams (would be sensible), I don’t think we’ll be poaching from Brazil’s first team, but you never know.”
