The site is currently arable land

Plans for a new egg production unit in Holderness have been submitted to East Riding Of Yorkshire Council. The site would be established on land to the north west of Buzzards Nest, Burton Pidsea.

The application has been submitted on behalf of Cattle Holderness Ltd, which plans explain is part of the wider Buckle Farms business. Submitted documents say the business has “existing operational experience of livestock enterprise”, due to a number of pig breeding and fishing sites it owns across the area.

The section of the farm’s land that is set aside for this application is currently arable land enclosed by hedgerows. However, if plans are approved, the land would become a site capable of housing 32,000 hens.

Plans explain that the nearest settlement to the application site is Burton Pidsea which is 550m south west of the site. However, the closest property is 500m south east.

The plans include an egg production building, an attached egg packing and storage building, four feed bins, and a manure elevator. Hard standings for vehicle parking, as well as a new access track, would also be included in the project.

The main egg production building would be built of a streel frame construction, clad in olive green sheeting. Plans say the colour (RAL 6003) has been specifically chosen to fit in with the surroundings.

Birds would be kept on site for 70 weeks. At the end of the cycle, they will be replaced with a new flock. Between flocks, the building would be cleaned in preparation for the new birds.

The site would be fitted with 100kW solar panels. These would be mounted on the south facing side of the building and would supply a proportion of the project’s electricity demands.
