It will include a refurbished gym, café and swimming pool as well as a bowling alley, soft play and more

A redeveloped East Yorkshire leisure centre is set to open this autumn. The transformation of East Riding Leisure Goole is now “just a few months away” from completion.

East Riding Of Yorkshire Council says developer Willmott Dixon has made “significant progress over recent weeks” with the building taking shape both inside and out.

Cladding and windows on the front have now been installed and work on the new learner pool is almost finished with tiling underway. The ‘changing village’ is also being tiled while the mechanical and electrical elements of the centre are being installed.

The redevelopment of the centre, off North Street, will include a refurbished gym, café and swimming pool as well as the new learner pool and health suite. It will also include additional activities such as a bowling alley, soft play and a Ninja Tag gamified obstacle course.

Councillor Nick Coultish, portfolio holder for culture and leisure at East Riding Of Yorkshire Council, said: “We’re all so excited in Goole for the centre to open. It’s going to be great to have a new leisure centre but also things to do with friends and family like the bowling and Ninja Tag which will give people the chance to come together and enjoy themselves.

“It’s great that the community are getting involved, we’ve had public votes to name the soft play and also the bowling which will be called Dockyard Bowl. This is going to be a fantastic facility for Goole. While it has been a wait for it to be completed it will be worth it and it’s great that this coincides with the bicentenary year of the town.”

The initial build is due to be completed this summer and handed over to the council for the final fitting and interiors. The centre is due to open in late autumn.

The building is being funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council with a contribution from Goole Town Deal.

Cllr Coultish added: “We do a monthly newsletter so anyone who wants to keep up to date with what is going on inside the building can sign up and watch the regular videos.”
