Rovers play Wigan Warriors on Thursday night before the two sides meet at Wembley next week
Hull KR boss Willie Peters will assess his squad in the coming days as he mulls over the possibility of rotation this week.
The Robins bounce straight from Saturday’s win over Leigh Leopards into Thursday’s clash with Wigan Warriors at Craven Park. It’s a mouth-watering clash and it’s the first of a double header against the Cherry and Whites, with the two sides colliding at Wembley in the Challenge Cup final just nine days later.
Speaking on Friday night, Matt Peet hinted at the possibility of making changes this week in an effort to keep players fresh for the final and it seems reasonable to expect Peters to follow a similar approach, particularly after such a gruelling contest at Leigh Sports Village.
A raft of players were visibly out on their feet towards the end of that game, having run themselves into the ground, and it certainly would not be a surprise to see Peters lean on a few of his fringe players, with the likes of Bill Leyland, Jack Brown, Noah Booth and Tom Whitehead pushing for some involvement.
“It’s not different,” Peters said when asked about his approach to Thursday night. “We’ve got a short turnaround, it’s five days, we just have to see how players pull up and manage players if we need to. We’ll look at that after this.
“We’ll look at [rotation], but we need to see where we’re at.”
Looking ahead to what’s in store for KR over the next two weeks, Peters added: “You want to play in the biggest games, the players want to play and as staff we want to be involved in the biggest games.
“It’s Thursday night at our place and then both teams are off to Wembley, it’s an exciting time and we have to enjoy it.
“It’s important we do that because you just don’t know when the next time is you get an opportunity to play in these sorts of games.
“We’ll worry about Thursday but the most important thing is recovery for the players.”
