Mourgue hasn’t played since the World Club Challenge
Arthur Mourgue could be set to make a return to action for Hull KR as early as next week, Willie Peters has confirmed.
Mourgue hasn’t featured for the Robins since picking up a pectoral injury in the World Club Challenge win over Brisbane Broncos back in February. The full-back has since gone under the knife and he’s spent the last two months going through a rehabilitation process in order to get himself back fully fit.
The original plan was to see Mourgue later in May, with a return against either Leigh Leopards or Wigan Warriors pencilled in for the Frenchman and that could still turn out to be the case.
However, Peters has suggested there is a chance that Mourgue could return for next week’s Challenge Cup semi-final against Warrington Wolves.
Whether Peters would throw him back into such a big game remains to be seen, particularly given Jack Broadbent is performing so well in the role at present, but he could be ready and if the head coach feels it’s right, he might just get the nod.
“Arthur Mourgue could be in contention for next week,” Peters said when speaking after Thursday night’s 50-6 win over Castleford Tigers at Craven Park.
“There’s a time where you can come back around about now and some come back a little bit later. Luke Gale keeps saying that he was back earlier, but it just varies. We’re not going to risk it but we’ll just see where things are at.
“We’ll worry about it if and when we have to make that decision but I’m comfortable either way and when I say that, I mean both players do a great job for us at full-back.”
