A fire has broken out at a building with residents warned to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed as emergency services respond to the blaze

A major fire has broken out at a building on the coast late on Tuesday night.

The blaze on Fort Terrace, Bridlington was reported shortly after 11pm on April 28, according to Humberside Fire and Rescue and police.

Footage and images circulating on social media show enormous flames and thick clouds of smoke billowing from the building.

Reports suggest the incident involves a hotel, though this has yet to be confirmed by the emergency services. Locals have been urged to steer clear of the area and keep their windows and doors shut while firefighters work to bring the blaze under control.

The Promenade has been closed as emergency service vehicles remain at the scene.

A spokesperson for Humberside Fire and Rescue said: “We are currently dealing with a building fire on Fort Terrace, Bridlington.

“Please avoid the area as there are several emergency service vehicles on scene and keep windows and doors closed.”

A spokesperson for Humberside Police added: “The Promenade in Bridlington is currently closed whilst Police deal with an ongoing incident.
