Staff and visitors at the award-winning Yorkshire Wildlife Park are celebrating the arrival of an adorable Titi monkey. The youngster was born on April 17 and has already captured the hearts of those passing through the Amazonas walkthrough reserve, where the newborn can be seen settling into life with its growing family.
This new addition follows the birth of older brother Jovi in June last year in an initiative recommended by the European Breeding Programme. The latest Titi Monkey marks a considerable achievement, as parents Jessie and Javari only arrived at the park in November 2024.
Primate Animal Ranger, Emily Rose Westran said: “We are so happy to welcome another Titi monkey to the park. While its gender is still unknown, we know it’s in great health and being nurtured by both mum and dad.
“The family unit are getting on very well — dad, Javari, does the majority of the carrying to keep baby safe, and then passes back to mum, Jessie, who’ll do the feeding. Jovi is also so far being a very attentive big brother and helps dad carry baby around. It will be fantastic seeing them playing together soon!”
The bushy-tailed primates are known for their strong family ties, as well as their loud communication which can be heard throughout the park. Typically found in the Amazon rainforest, they can live up 20 years and pair for life. Their tails entwine when sitting together, showing they are happy and content as a family unit.
Visitors can see the new monkey in the Amazonas walkthrough reserve alongside the Capybaras, critically endangered Golden Lion Tamarins, and Silvery Marmosets. You can also see adorable photos of the new addition below.
