Firm faces stiff competition from the likes of Aldi for the title

The team at an East Yorkshire poultry business are celebrating after reaching the final of a prestigious food industry award. Middleton-on-the-Wolds based poultry business Soanes Poultry has reached the final of the Best Poultry Product category in the annual Food Management Today awards, with its Yorkshire Christmas Cockerel, a different take on a Christmas dinner staple.

Dmitrijus Solovjovas, Soanes Poultry’s factory manager, said: “Our Yorkshire Christmas Cockerel is a delicious alternative to turkey and proved very successful last Christmas. We’re delighted it has been judged worthy of a place in the final against some industry giants.”

Products are judged on taste, packaging, aroma, visual appeal and cooking performance. Soanes Poultry faces competition from Cornfed Chicken Supreme Wrapped in Bacon – Owen Taylor & Sons Ltd; Aldi Specially Selected Sourdough Breaded Wild Garlic & Jersey Butter Chicken Kievs; Red Tractor Chicken – Kings Fine Cooked Meats; Free Range Turkey Bacon – Ambry Foods and Cajun Spiced Chicken Schnitzel – Owen Taylor & Sons Ltd.

The team will learn whether they have been successful at an awards event in London on June 12. The annual Food Management Today Industry Awards are a celebration of the creativity, innovation and excellence of the British food industry.
